Join us at 09.45 on the 9th April for the Liturgy of Palm Sunday, Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem.
Palms are blessed in the Parish Centre, the Gospel is proclaimed, Jesus entering Jerusalem on a donkey, the crowds waving palms and praising God “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
A procession then leaves the Centre and makes its way singing praises into church, “All glory, laud and honour to thee, Redeemer King…” The Passion narrative is read, from the moment Judas Iscariot plots against Jesus, the Last Supper, the Garden of Gethsemane, the arrest, trial, Peter’s denial and crucifixion.
However, Sunday is the day of Resurrection, so bread is broken and Jesus is revealed among his people and within the community they serve.
THE PRAYER OF BLESSING OVER THE PALMS
God our Saviour,
whose Son Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem as Messiah
to suffer and to die,
bless these palms
that they may be for us signs of his victory;
and grant that we, who bear them in his name,
may ever hail him as our king
and follow him in the way that leads to eternal life;
who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever.
