Welcome to St John the Evangelist
As a church family we share our experience of God’s love and in response we try to serve faithfully in the world around us. We meet together to pray and to worship God, to encourage each other in our Christian faith, to enjoy our fellowship and to find new ways of bringing Christ’s life to others.
Engaged with the complex moral pressures of the modern world we seek to build our lives led by God’s will for the human race.
Aware of our own brokenness and need of healing, we value God’s Word and the call to become more like our Lord Jesus Christ, forgiving, non-judgemental and active in bringing down the barriers that divide humanity.
We want to be a sign of God’s presence, proclaiming Christ’s love, sharing Christ’s guidance, his life-giving spirit, healing touch and unfailing compassion. We want to reach out in love to the diverse community of Friern Barnet as we welcome all who come among us.

The Bishop of London’s Lent Appeal 2019 – Hidden in Plain Sight Modern slavery is thriving in London. Hundreds of people are trapped by domestic servitude, forced labour or sexual exploitation, all in plain sight of Londoners. This year’s appeal will build on the work of the Clewer Initiative, part of the national church’s approach to eradicating modern day slavery, which was launched by the Archbishop of Canterbury in October 2017. It rightly calls for a community wide response – developing partnerships between the Church, statutory and non-statutory agencies to create a network of advocates seeking to end modern day slavery.

There will be a retiring collection every Sunday in Lent. If you would like to organise a coffee morning or any other type of event during Lent to help raise funds for the appeal, please let us know and we can advertise it on our website or by email/WhatsApp.
Lent Lunch in aid of the Bishop of London’s Lent Appeal at the Rectory on Saturday 23rd March 12.30pm.
In Matthew’s Gospel (4.1-11) Jesus is led by the Spirit into the wilderness where he fasted forty days and forty nights. Afterwards he is tempted by the Devil. In our Lenten thinking we are considering each of the three temptations Jesus faced: 1. “If you are the Son of God command these stones to become loaves…
